The Scholars

Hi Guys, Please tell our readers who are you and what you have been up to lately…?

Hello! We are Adrian, Chris, Adam, Josh and Tim - together we make the alternative rock band 'The Scholars'. After a summer packed full of gigs we have started to make some serious progress having been taken on to release a few singles over the coming months and eventually an album next year.

For our readers, who may not have heard of you before, please describe your sound/style and influences.

While we have progressed and broken away from our influences as we have become more confident as songwriters and as a collective, we are usually compared to alternative acts such as Editors, Interpol, Coldplay and The Killers.

What have you got coming up between now and Christmas…?

The main event between now and Christmas is our debut single 'Turbulence' being released. This will be available only on iTunes from October 26th and will soon be available to be pre-ordered online. We're also playing the odd gig here and there despite now being back at Universities and Colleges etc. The most notable of these will be the prestigious OX4 festival up and down Cowley Road - the epicentre of Oxford's music scene! We also have a very flash official website on the way: keep your eyes peeled for that one.

What has been your favourite gig so far and why?

Our favourite gig so far would have to be our spot on the BBC Introducing Stage at Truck Festival back in July. It is a fantastic festival that boasts big acts yet a friendly atmosphere, and pulled it off brilliantly. Our set also got extensive Radio 1 and BBC Oxford coverage - result! Also worth a mention would be our support slot with one of our favourite bands, The Cinematics, in London at The Fly last month.

What has been the biggest success The Scholars have achieved so far?

Our biggest success to date would arguably be winning the BBC Introducing 'Battle of the Bands' in Oxford to secure the final spot on the Truck Festival line-up. We were rank outsiders and relatively unknown against stiff competition and Oxford regulars, but came through on the night. We're now established regularly on the Oxford music scene which is great fun.

Please tell us something exclusive and of interest about The Scholars, which is not common knowledge to your fans?

Despite what some people may think, we are not a band that perpetuates the rock and roll stereotype - during recording time we enjoy hot ribena and stone baked pizzas in our producer's AGA - a tool that no studio should be without!

Is there anything else you wish to add and share with the readers of The New Roxette?

Having headlined the 'Young Bands' section at this years 'Music In The Market' festival back in the spring, Buckinghamshire, in an area that we always recall with great fondness. Thank you to everyone who came along and cheered for us that day, and if any of you remember us still then thank you so much! Keep up to date with us on myspace and our various other social networking sites, and download the many releases we have coming up over the next few months! We will be extremely grateful if you do so and support us in our quest to make what we love our full time career.
